Costuming and Wardrobe Styling Careers for Film, TV, Print, and Commercial Media
FILLING
Saturday March 14, 2026 2:00pm - 3:15pm PDT
Limited Capacity filling up
This workshop introduces students to exciting and creative career opportunities in Wardrobe Styling and Costuming within the entertainment industry.

The workshop begins by engaging students with interactive oral activities designed to broaden their interests and hobbies, helping them discover how these passions can translate into professional opportunities.

Discussion includes an overview of the entertainment wardrobe department. It clarifies the distinctions among the key roles of a wardrobe stylist, costume designer, assistant costume designer, set costumer, and costume supervisor.

Students will learn how each role contributes to building a character’s look, supporting the script, and collaborating with the costume team.

Wardrobe Styling involves selecting and returning garments and accessories from stores and costume houses. It may also include press events, music videos, mood board creation, organization, budgeting, and maintaining professional relationships.

Costuming for film and television involves fittings, specialty services such as aging/dyeing, and on-set tasks in a fast-paced production environment.

Students will learn about unions such as IATSE, discuss training options, and explore various entry-level roles, including costume production assistant positions and roles at costume houses.

By the end of the workshop, students will have a clear understanding of the variety of career options in styling and costuming, empowering them to begin exploring their own path into the entertainment industry.

Decoding the Language of Shakepeare
FILLING
Saturday March 14, 2026 2:00pm - 3:15pm PDT
Limited Capacity filling up
Think Shakespeare is stiff, stuffy, and only performed with the most proper of English dialects? Think again! Modern audiences often struggle to understand the similarities between Shakespearean characters and people alive today, partly due to the structure of the verse, old-fashioned slang, and references to events that occurred long ago. When we don't understand something, it's easy to think it's boring and irrelevant. But the enduring legacy of Shakespeare is that his stories, characters, humor, heart, and observations of human behavior still ring very true in modern times if you can decode the text and find the meaning underneath. In this workshop, we will speak the speech trippingly on the tongue and put the words of Shakespeare into a modern context by working on scenes both in their original form and in your own words. We will also explore how Shakespeare used sounds, verse, and language to help actors understand their characters, relationships, and place in the story. By the end you will realize just how many times you've seen a Helena, Hamlet, or Hal in your favorite movies and TV shows (and maybe also in your own life). I am passionate about helping young actors find the fun in Shakespeare in ways that will benefit them, whether they aspire to tread the boards at The Globe or present at the Golden Globes.

Where did the fun go? After watching thousands of auditions every year, I want to help encourage folks to make bold choices, take risks, and play when they get up there and sing. When we are kids, we make up stories and play pretend with ease. As we grow, we are often faced with insecurities, questioning the decisions we make, and by extension the actions we take as performers, and the musical sounds we achieve while singing. In auditions, when everything seems high stakes, over preparation often removes the very reason we want to go into performance—to tell stories, create characters, and have fun being someone else. This workshop will encourage folks to take risks, raise the stakes, and remember to have fun! This is applicable to both the college audition—where you are auditioning to LEARN, grow, and train, and the professional audition—where you want to show you can bring choices to the audition room and collaborate. We’ll workshop material, choose action, and remember to play!

Bad Auditions by Bad Actors
SLATE: Troupe #2276 from Pasadena High School, presents “Bad Auditions by Bad Actors” by Ian McWethy. When a director attempts to cast "Romeo and Juliet," chaos ensues with every type of actor imaginable. Through laughter and confusion, he discovers that the “perfect” cast isn’t perfect at all. Enjoy.

PLAY SUMMARY: “Bad Auditions by Bad Actors” follows a desperate director trying to cast "Romeo and Juliet," who is met with every theatrical nightmare imaginable—overdramatic method actors, clueless beginners, musical theater divas, and wildly inappropriate interpretations. As auditions spiral into chaos, he discovers that finding the “perfect” actor may be impossible… and hilariously disastrous.

Little Women
SLATE: Monte Vista Christian School Troupe #7200 presents “Little Women” by Louisa May Alcott - a story that surrounds trials within family and love throughout the struggle of poverty and uncertainty. This heart warming play follows an eager writer looking for success, what will she learn on her journey? Trigger Warning: Themes of death, please take a moment to exit the theater if needed. Thank you.

PLAY SUMMARY: "Little Women" is a warm, spirited portrait of four sisters growing up during the Civil War. In Louisa May Alcott’s classic, Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy chase ambition, love, art, and independence while clashing, forgiving, and dreaming big. It’s messy, heartfelt, and timeless. Sisterhood becomes their greatest adventure and strength.

Decoding the Language of Shakepeare
FULL
Saturday March 14, 2026 3:30pm - 4:45pm PDT
Limited Capacity full

The Song is Yours!
LIMITED
Saturday March 14, 2026 3:30pm - 4:45pm PDT
Limited Capacity seats available
When taking on a role, you are always bringing your unique self to the embodiment of that character. While the ghosts of previous actors may haunt audience perception, ultimately the material is your to create—not Cynthia Erivo, Laura Bell Bundy, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Telly Leung, or any other great originator on a cast album—yours. What do we do when we only have an album or YouTube slime tutorials as our guide? We dig into the text—libretto, lyric, and score—and explore the material as ourselves, making active physical, musical, and storytelling choices that resonate with us. What happened right before the song? Why are you singing it? What do you want? What is your point of view in the material? Where is the moment of change and/or discovery? The answers to these questions aren’t just in the material itself, but that personalization of material will provide artist agency that we all strive to achieve. This workshop will benefit those trying to find a place for themselves in this artform in order for you to learn how to create bold performances and auditions.
