Introduction to Lighting Design
FULL
Sunday March 15, 2026 10:00am - 11:15am PDT
Limited Capacity full
This class discusses the physics of light and how light works. This will establish a foundation
for how we use light to create different scenes, from recreating natural light to dramatic
beam looks and dynamic effects. We will cover the objectives of lighting design, from
establishing visibility, revealing form, to creating composition and mood. We will discuss the
controllable properties of light: intensity, color, distribution, and movement. You will learn
that lighting design is not just a single concept, but rather a complex sum of parts that all
come together to form an important part of a cohesive production design. This class aims
to give you an overview of the role that lighting takes, and how important the choices you
make early on in the process can be.

The Song is Yours!
FILLING
Sunday March 15, 2026 10:00am - 11:15am PDT
Limited Capacity filling up
When taking on a role, you are always bringing your unique self to the embodiment of that character. While the ghosts of previous actors may haunt audience perception, ultimately the material is your to create—not Cynthia Erivo, Laura Bell Bundy, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Telly Leung, or any other great originator on a cast album—yours. What do we do when we only have an album or YouTube slime tutorials as our guide? We dig into the text—libretto, lyric, and score—and explore the material as ourselves, making active physical, musical, and storytelling choices that resonate with us. What happened right before the song? Why are you singing it? What do you want? What is your point of view in the material? Where is the moment of change and/or discovery? The answers to these questions aren’t just in the material itself, but that personalization of material will provide artist agency that we all strive to achieve. This workshop will benefit those trying to find a place for themselves in this artform in order for you to learn how to create bold performances and auditions.

An Actors' training is refined in its scope. Everything from vocal performance, to text analysis, to period piece work: these are just a handful of elements that round out a comprehensive study of the craft, giving Actors a broad palette from which to draw from as professionals.

.... But what about play?

What is often overlooked in the Acting conversation is how silliness and goofiness are actually quite elegant. Trusting one's own unique authenticity and instincts when it comes to creating play in a space is one of the highest abilities of an Actor, for it reveals an Actor's trust in their own freedom. Through Improv exercises and group work, join Katie Reeves Northlich for a day of taking play seriously!

The Song is Yours!
FILLING
Sunday March 15, 2026 1:15pm - 2:30pm PDT
This workshop will benefit those trying to find a place for themselves in this artform in order for you to learn how to create bold performances and auditions.

beam looks and dynamic effects.

In this fun workshop we'll discover how to fine tune your song or monologue to present your best self at auditions. Take your audition to the next level by making sure you're making the best choices, hitting the right beats and bringing YOU to the material so that you stand out in the crowd and always give killer auditions. This is a participatory workshop so please bring a short monologue or song - or you can learn just by watching! If singing, you can sing a cappella or to a track if you have one.

Putting Play Back in the Audition
LIMITED
Sunday March 15, 2026 2:45pm - 4:00pm PDT
Limited Capacity seats available
Where did the fun go? After watching thousands of auditions every year, I want to help encourage folks to make bold choices, take risks, and play when they get up there and sing. When we are kids, we make up stories and play pretend with ease. As we grow, we are often faced with insecurities, questioning the decisions we make, and by extension the actions we take as performers, and the musical sounds we achieve while singing. In auditions, when everything seems high stakes, over preparation often removes the very reason we want to go into performance—to tell stories, create characters, and have fun being someone else. This workshop will encourage folks to take risks, raise the stakes, and remember to have fun! This is applicable to both the college audition—where you are auditioning to LEARN, grow, and train, and the professional audition—where you want to show you can bring choices to the audition room and collaborate. We’ll workshop material, choose action, and remember to play!

Over the course of my career, I have had the opportunity to direct work in all kinds of spaces and am excited to share my knowledge with students. In this workshop students will get practical advice, vocabulary and time to practice directing for two different audience configurations (end-on and in-the-round) and thinking about how each of these kinds of stagings could be useful for telling different kinds of stories. In the workshop you'll have the opportunity to ask questions and practice directing and being directed.
