About me
Michele Gampel is a member and lecturer for the Educational Committee of IATSE Local 705, Motion Picture Costumers, in conjunction with the Los Angeles Academy of
Figurative Arts.
She has conceptualized, researched, developed, and taught Day Checking as a Finished Costumer; Setting Up and Running a Costume Trailer for Film and TV; Shopping and Shipping Costumes Domestically and Internationally; and a 160-hour Wardrobe Styling for the Entertainment Industry class.
As a member of IATSE since 2007, she works as a Finished Costumer for film and TV. As a wardrobe stylist and educator, she works on commercials, print editorial, and advertising.
As an experienced lecturer, she uses her qualifications to teach film and costume students about career opportunities in wardrobe styling and costuming, serving as a roadmap for their future professional pursuits.
The importance of the lexicon and the progression of the day-to-day responsibilities of the Finished Costumer are presented in an organized, chronological fashion. The roles for each costume position are identified to ensure a seamless transition from script to screen.
The scope of Michele's TV and film work includes, but is not limited to, day-checking in various costume department positions, pulling costume components at costume houses, fabric swatching, purchasing through studio services in compliance with budget restrictions, workroom alteration and made-to-order follow-up, talent fittings, setting up and running the costume trailer, working set, costume continuity, and wrapping shows.
Additionally, students are informed about career paths in print media, including editorial and advertising projects. Print involves collaboration with the creative director, client, producer, photographer, makeup artist, hair stylist, and talent.
As of this writing, Michele is currently working as a costumer on Grey’s Anatomy Season 22.
